Graz was named the European Culture Capital of the Year. After approving the concept, the museum couldn’t provide technical support to achieve it, so Flatscher sourced materials herself and convinced residents across the street to allow her to use their apartments for the duration. The projections continued each day of Easter week.

In 2015, Eva took responsibility for maintaining a forest of over 200 acres in Carinthia, Austria (part of the Alps mountains). To take care of the area with the utmost integrity, she studied both traditional ecological knowledge by becoming a jägerin* and scientific discoveries at the forefront of modern research. Her findings informed her most recent series, There is More Than You Can See. The materiality of concrete and plastic under paint not only give the paintings a sculptural quality; they also point to the idea that we as humanity must integrate ourselves with our environment wisely instead of drawing distinct boundaries between the synthetic and the natural. As the series title suggests, the paintings’ subjects can teach the viewers something they might not have known--which could help them, too, take responsibility for their own (and shared) space in the world.

Traditionally, land in this region of the Alps is managed by a highly trained hunter who is responsible for maintaining ecological balance and health of the animals and flora/fauna of the forest.

LIGHTpainting

Eva uses light instead of paint, a grip pen instead of a brush, to make visuals which are projected onto the stage. Her work is created in the moment for the moment, without using any pre-produced material. LIGHTpainting highlights the connections between the many forms of sensory experience. Eva performs with outstanding musicians from differing back-grounds - classical, jazz, new music - and with renowned dancers throughout Europe and the United States. The collaborative improvisation is unique for a fine artist. She developed the concept with influence from the Dutch masters of the 17th century. Johannes Vermeer knew that with the first stroke of the brush, a painting is ready and readable in its entirety. Similarly, Eva’s spontaneous, projected brushstrokes constitute a finished work at each moment of the performance. LIGHTpainting transforms traditional understandings of fine art and takes it to an entirely new level.
